In the New Year we welcome Turner Prize nominee George Shaw fresh from the National Gallery where Shaw spent two years as Artist in Residence (2014-2016). Inspired by woodland scenes in the National Gallery’s collection, Shaw 'takes on' the Masters, creating beautiful intimate scenes of woodland near suburban areas. The exhibition is accompanied by three high profile paintings from the National Gallery collection that inspired Shaw by Constable, Poussin and Pollaiuolo.
Georgian period rooms allow you to glimpse what life was like in another time and provide views of the River Kent and Kendal Castle. Get messy in the Art Studio, linger in the exhibition spaces and come to one of our popular events. Families can learn together with trails and discovery bags, which contain everything needed to investigate the art works.
