Hawkshead Brewery

Brewers of distinctive, flavourful, modern beers since 2002, Hawkshead are at the heart of the independent brewing revival. The brewery has expanded three times; first in 2006 when they moved from an old barn in Hawkshead to Staveley (the present site), again in 2010 when they increased brewing capacity & developed the brewery tap, The Beer Hall, and most recently this spring – they now milk their 20 barrel plant for up to 9 brews a week.

They brew traditional cask and modern boundary pushing keg beers such as Tonka. The beer range is eclectic and includes thirst quenching session beers, big hopped modern pale ales, deep dark stout, sours and beer that skirts several styles.
The Beer Hall is open 7 days a week and is a showcase for Hawkshead beers, in cask, keg and bottle.

It has a Cask Marque award for serving “the perfect pint,” and is in all the best pub guides including: The Good Beer Guide; The Good Pub Guide; Sawday’s Special Places to Eat & Drink; Great British Pubs.

The Beer Hall is light and airy, with plenty of space spread over two floors, a long bar made for leaning on, and sofas for flopping into. Windows everywhere let you see into the brewery and if you want to get even closer take a brewery tour.

Often at weekends there is live music in the main bar.

The kitchen was opened in 2010, with the help of our consultant chef, Steven Doherty (formerly Albert Roux’s Head Chef at Le Gavroche.) We offer down-to-earth, hearty, classic food – tapas (small portions designed to complement the beer) or main meals. We encourage long lunch, by serving food until at least 3pm (6pm on Sunday.) On Friday and Saturday we serve food all the way until 8.30pm. We run scheduled tours of the brewery four times a week; Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm, allowing you to enjoy lunch in The Beer Hall beforehand should you so wish.

We can also arrange tours for groups of 10-20 at other times (Monday – Friday during The Beer Hall opening hours) by prior arrangement.

The cost of a brewery tour is £8.00 per person and includes either a pint or two halves at the end of the tour. The tour includes a short film and lasts around 45 minutes.

To pre-book a place on a scheduled tour or to enquire about booking a group tour please call 01539 825260, email or submit an enquiry.
