The Forest Side is a former gentleman’s residence built in 1853, set in 43 acres of grounds in the heart of the Lake District, with unsurpassed views from every aspect over Wordsworth’s Vale of Grasmere.
Refurbished over 18 months, The Forest Side has been lovingly transformed into a destination hotel centred around its restaurant and the food created by Head Chef Kevin Tickle, whose food is firmly rooted in the Cumbrian landscape.
The light and airy restaurant is itself specifically designed to further connect the diner with their surroundings. The space overlooks a terrace framed with Lakeland slate towards verdant lawns and a magnificent specimen Lebanese Cedar. Through a dappled woodland canopy guests can enjoy tantalising glimpses of the Lakeland Fells, including Loughrigg, Silver Howe and Dow Bank.
There are 20 luxuriously appointed bedrooms, combining contemporary style with original features, stunning views, separate sitting areas, luxurious bathrooms with double ended baths and brilliant showers.
With interiors conceived by renowned designer James Mackie, luxurious wall coverings and fabrics by Zoffany, ultra-comfy Westmorland beds made specially for us by Harrison Spinks to snuggle into, hand crafted deep pile Herdwick carpet by Wools of Cumbria and natural bath and body products handmade by Bramley.
With 43 acres of grounds there is plenty of space to explore, indeed guests are at liberty to wander the gardens, including the walled kitchen garden. These have been specially created and are filled with plants that are perfumed, ornamental or edible, with a vast and impressive array of wild, exotic and cultivated plants, fruits and vegetables.
