Hidden under a grass roof and located at the northern gateway to the Lakes, just off the M6 (J40), Rheged is an indoor day out where the arts meet good food, family fun and shops. It’s where we share, what we love about our place, with brilliant food, art, cinema and shopping from both here and further afield.
The Arts programme includes a large modern gallery space where exhibitions include The Great Print Exhibition (25 Nov-26 Feb) with over 350 original artworks by 68 printmakers from across the UK and New Quilting (4 March – 23 April 2017) which will reveal quilting a new a contemporary art form with good design, use of colour and storytelling at it heart.
Our cinema which has the largest screen for miles around shows films every day including Life on a Mountain Blencathra, Search for life in Space, family films, festive films and the Best of British films. We also stream live Opera, Ballet and Theatre from national venues. For families we have indoor play, pottery painting and over the festive period you will find an indoor 9 metre high Helter Skelter, Santa in his Cottage and Christmas craft activities plus our Pantomime Jack and the Beanstork
Rheged’s shops have a hand picked collection from small local makers and hard to find brands so you will discover elegant women’s wear, outdoor clothing, children’s toys and books, skincare and a British wool shop. For food and drink we have a Farm Shop and 3 cafes.
We are open every day except Christmas day and Boxing day, and there is free entry to the centre and free parking.
