Windermere Lake Cruises recent competition with us offered multiple, fantastic prizes! 4 pairs of Summer buffet cruise tickets and 1 family ticket were up for grabs. We attended the cruise that some of the prize winners had booked on to so we could congratulate them and chat to them about their experience.
The Summer Buffet Cruises are a summer special, running from 7pm, June to August. Passengers receive a two course freshly prepared cold buffet accompanied by live music from the resident blues band, a fully licensed bar and a dance floor so you can boogie the night away! These particular cruises sail for the sunset and last 2 ½ hours.
We boarded the MS Swan, where we were given a warm welcome by the staff. Sitting on the top deck where the band was setting up provided us with amazing views of the lake! We enjoyed the relaxed setting and the music was perfect for the atmosphere, dreamy and melodic.
Shortly after departing the pier it was announced the buffet was served, it was delicious! There was a range of salads, to name a few, beetroot, summer leaf and coleslaw were on offer along with a tasty cheese and onion flan, marinated chicken and roast Cumbrian ham. We even had the opportunity to go and get seconds...yay!
Between courses we chatted to Windermere Lake Cruises Jennifer Cormack, who kindly introduced us to three sets of winners, the Barclay family, Mr and Mrs Owens and Mr and Mrs Price. All three had made a special trip to the lakes to enjoy their prize and said they were delighted to have won.
The sky was starting to go pink as we tucked into our delicious dessert, we had an option of chocolate fudge cake or apple pie with cream, it was a hard decision! By the time we approached the southern end of the Lake, we were well and truly stuffed and content. The only slight frustration was that all the photos we took simply couldn’t capture the beauty of the lake and the hills beyond. That being our only trouble - we were having a jolly good time!
After the buffet several passengers got up to enjoy a boogie and we took the time to chat to Windermere Lake Cruises most loyal customers, Mr and Mrs Banks. Ed and Lillian Banks have been going on the summer buffet cruises for the last 15 years. Married for 66 years, we asked this lovely couple what is was about the cruise that they liked so much:
“We love the food and the band, it is good value for money, all in all, a beautiful relaxing cruise” - Ed Banks
After experiencing the cruise for ourselves we have to say we agree with Mr Banks, we really did have a great evening. As the boat arrived back at the jetty the sun was just dipping behind the hills, perfect timing!
