Best sights to see in the New Year

Happy New Year Everybody! Our New Year’s resolution is to truly experience our home, the Lake District, and we hope you’ll join us. We want to explore, adventure, and experience something truly life-changing this year. So, we’ve created this list for people who feel the same, whether you live near or far. Here’s the most breath-taking sights to see in the Lake District.

Ullswater

Located just south of Penrith, Ullswater is a beautiful sprawling lake surrounded by small towns and villages. Perched along the edge you can find our members Sharrow Bay Hotel and Macdonald Leeming House, both offering spectacular views of the waterfront from their rooms and restaurants. While here you can spend your time climbing England’s third highest mountain, Helvellyn, or discovering ancient and historical landmarks.

Skip across the water to visit Aira Force Waterfall. A wondrous natural feature, Aira Force is the perfect place to adventure with the family. And when the kids get tired of walking, you can cuddle up with a hot mug of cocoa in their cosy tea-room.

Windermere Lake

When thinking of the Lake District Lake Windermere is probably the first place to come to mind. The heart of the Lakes, Windermere is chock full of exciting things to do. However, it’s natural beauty is not to be ignored. Windermere Lake Cruises will take you on a tour of the water where you can see Ambleside, Bowness, Brockhole, and more.

Prefer a hot coffee as you sit and watch the world go by? Reopening January 24th, Windermere Jetty’s Lake District inspired cafe serves a range of local produce to create delicious dishes and sunday dinners. For those who like a little luxury with their adventure, book a trip on Windermere Jetty’s restored Edwardian steamer, the Osprey.

Blencathra and Skiddaw

Located only a short drive from Armathwaite Hall Hotel, Blencathra and Skiddaw are perfect for the hardened adventurer. With mixed terrain and stunning surroundings, climbing either of these mounts on a clear day is rewarded with magnificent views across the Lake District.

With Armathwaite Hall, you can enjoy a guided tour for up to 6 guests. You’ll journey through fells, valleys, and around 10 amazing lakes. Plus, the trip includes a lake cruise, chauffeur, and packed lunches so you can explore to your heart’s content.
