The Lakes in a day - or two

So many times on social media groups you’ll see questions from people who have never yet been to the Lake District. They ask, we’ve only got one day (or one weekend), what should we absolutely must see?

And they might get a hundred responses, offering a hundred different favourite views, favourite Lakes, favourite walks, favourite villages. And after reading all of those, they’re more confused than ever.

Which is where Mountain Goat comes to the rescue. Mountain Goat is the original Lake District Mini-Bus Company, established back in 1972, and their name was changed after a customer commented that the buses climbed the Lakeland passes like mountain goats.
The company is now the Lake District’s number 1 tour specialist, regularly featuring on TV, and winning awards. And among their tour offerings are two designed for newcomers to the area, which also happen to be loved by all who love the Lakes and want to see the landscape from a new perspective.

The 48 hour and 24 hour Lake District Passes take visitors around the national park on the best routes, with the most knowledgeable of drivers, viewing the spectacular scenery and learning about the region’s history. But more than that, they also include a sail on England’s largest lake, and the two day trip adds entry to some of the area’s most popular tourist attractions.

It’s an ideal way to save time and planning, while also letting someone else do the driving so every member of the party can have the full experience. We all know the importance of encouraging fewer cars on the roads in the Lake District, and Mountain Goat have been leading the way and setting the example for many years.

The 24 hour pass takes in the lakes of Windermere, Brotherswater, Ullswater, Thirlmere, Grasmere and Rydal Water. Passengers can be picked up at Bowness, Windermere or Ambleside, and they’ll get a cruise on Windermere taking in more than half of the length of the lake, with stunning views every moment.

The Goat will take passengers to Grasmere, once the home of the poet William Wordsworth and now famous for Grasmere Gingerbread, and to see the astonishing Castlerigg Stone Circle, which is 1000 years older than Stonehenge.
The 48 hour pass takes in a full day, ten-lakes spectacular tour, while the second day includes a cruise on Windermere, a ride on the heritage steam railway train from Lakeside to Haverthwaite, and entry to the lovely World of Beatrix Potter attraction in Bowness.

It’s the totally stress-free way to see the Lake District, with no time wasted searching for parking spaces or queuing for tickets. You’ll not get lost or get cross with your navigator! And best of all, you’re freed from the steering wheel to enjoy the full Lake District experience. For full details and how to book go to https://www.mountain-goat.com/
