The group from City of Liverpool College are coming to see behind the scenes at some of the top hotels in the Lakes with the hope they’ll be keen to take up an apprenticeship placement here.
It’s part of a scheme developed by the Lake District Hotels Association in partnership with the City of Liverpool and other colleges throughout the north west to offer work placements to students who are on their way to a career in hospitality.
Said Ben Mayou, Chair of the Association: “The scheme for young people has been running for a couple of years and we are delighted to see an increasing number of students wanting placements in the Lakes. Students want to get a flavour of our industry and the importance of being a tourist hot spot.”
The group of 15 students and four staff will start at Storrs Hall on Windermere for a tour of hotel, grounds, kitchen and staff accommodation. They’ll have coffee and a chance for a Q&A session with hotel staff from around the South Lakes.
Then they will head north for a scenic drive to Borrowdale’s Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa for a tour of the hotel’s facilities, including the flagship pan-Asian restaurant Mizu. From there they will have a visit to Keswick’s Skiddaw Hotel and the Inn on the Square, and a chef demonstration at LBs Pizzeria.
“This is a great opportunity and we are really looking forward to our visit,” said Helen Farrow, head of school for the Visitor Economy, Leisure and Service Industries at the City of Liverpool College.
