Top awards for hotels in the Lakes

The finance team behind the scenes at the Lake District’s flagship Langdale Hotel and Spa scooped a top award at a ceremony in London. Langdale were winners of the Revenue Team of the Year category at the Boutique Hotelier Awards celebration event at London’s Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square.

The awards recognise the best hotels in the country, rewarding the most innovative new products and marking the achievements of excellent staff and employers in the hospitality sector.

The black-tie event included a sparkling champagne reception and a three-course dinner, and Langdale came out top from a shortlist that included Escapade Silverstone, the Kimpton Fitzroy in London, The Grand in York, and The Belfry, Warwickshire.

Michael Coletta, managing director of Langdale Leisure Limited, who is also chair of the Lake District Hotels Association, said the award recognised the work behind the scenes which makes visiting the Lake District’s top hotels so special.

He said: “With operational costs soaring and forecasting more complex than ever before, this category honours the vital work of commercial teams.”

Another Lake District hotel, the Armathwaite Hall and Spa, were finalists in the Best Spa category.

Also winning awards this week - Lake District Country Hotels is celebrating double national success at the prestigious HR in Hospitality Annual Awards for Excellence in HR, securing a national award alongside a Highly Commended accolade.

The hotel group comprising Briery Wood, Cragwood and Merewood Country House Hotels, was named Winner of Excellence in Promoting Early Careers and received Highly Commended recognition for Excellence in Learning and Development at the awards ceremony, held at The Chancery Rosewood in London.

The awards recognise the people, teams and organisations making an outstanding contribution to human resources and people development across the hospitality industry.
Shortlisted alongside some of the sector’s most prestigious and inspiring organisations, the two accolades represent a significant achievement for the business and its people, reflecting the group’s ongoing commitment to attracting and retaining talent through meaningful career pathways and investment in the development of its teams.

Through its Training Academy, Chef Academy and Trainee Management Programme, alongside apprenticeships, industry placements and partnerships with local schools, colleges and universities, Lake District Country Hotels is helping to showcase hospitality as a fulfilling and rewarding industry in which to build a career, while providing individuals with the skills, experience and support to progress within the sector.

Hotel Group Executive Manager, Joe Cobb said: “We are deeply honoured to win such a prestigious award. At Lake District Country Hotels, it’s our people who make us who we are, and that is why we have created exciting initiatives that will help them to learn and grow. We already have an exciting legacy with people progressing really well within our industry as we strive to highlight that the wonderful hospitality isn’t just a summer job or a start-out job — for so many, it's a job for life.”
