The warmest of welcomes...
We arrive at the entrance of this magnificent georgian mansion and are greeted immediately by a beaming chap who we learn is called Fred. Before we have chance to reach for the door handle, Fred welcomes us in and we’re instantly relaxed in the most grand of settings. We’re checked in and shown around the ground floor, several rooms with huge open fires ornately decorated with oil paintings, ships and all manor of knick knacks that add to the charm of the place whilst revealing it’s history.
The Boat House
Fred guides us through the electric gates, a short walk from the hotel, revealing The Boat House. With it’s private hot tub, duck pond, and patio set right on the lakeshore, this stunning facility offers elegance, beauty and idyllic seclusion.
The room is breathtaking with every manner of creature comfort. Sonos music system, widescreen TV equipped with Netfix and Amazon Prime. Even an ultra-modern automatic lighting system to give any occasion the perfect ambience, whether watching a film, reading a book or something a little more romantic.
The enormous Villeroy & Bosch bathroom is superbly equipped with steam room, rain shower, underfloor heating and a stunning, stand alone bathtub. Finished with Molton Brown toiletries and every accessory you could wish for - this is a perfectly planned bathroom.
Like children, we explore the room’s many superb features, carry out the compulsory mattress check (excellent), and take in our very own stunning view of Lake Windermere.
Our 8pm dinner reservation allows us time to take in the sunset from our private hot tub before dining. We enjoy the last rays of sun, hear owls hoot and see swans make their bed for the night in our pond - all while sipping prosecco - it’s a magical moment.
Dinner
Difficult though it was to pull ourselves away from the hot tub, it was most certainly worth it. The stunning three course meal was executed perfectly. Every element of every dish thought out and delivered to heavenly perfection. From the Venison tartare to the melt in your mouth lamb main course we could not lavish enough praise on the food, as was our conversation for nearly the entirety of dinner. The service was friendly and professional, every member of the team making us feel most welcome.
After dinner we enjoy the lounges, finishing our wine next to the roaring fire in the bar. But alas we did not linger as the appeal of going back to the boat house, the luxury that it is, was just too much.
Breakfast
Every bit as good as dinner, rare even in the best hotels. Sitting in the conservatory, overlooking the lake, enjoying our perfectly cooked breakfast after all manor of yoghurt, fruits and cereals, we made sure we had left enough time to go back to The Boat House to sit by the lake for an hour before check out.
Lasting impressions
The grandeur of Storrs Hall and beautiful tranquility of the boat house offer the perfect setting for a romantic night away. Where Storrs hall further sets itself apart is the people. From the lovely Fred on check in to the delightful waiters, the extremely talented Chef’s and the housekeepers and groundskeepers that maintain such a stunning standard.... The team at Storrs Hall clearly strive for excellence at every turn and are 100% successful. I cannot wait to return.
