Rachel is the multi-million selling writer of psychological crime thrillers set in the Lake District and starring the fictional detective inspector Kelly Porter. She is the guest speaker at the September session of the hotel's popular Meet the Author series, which is heading towards its third year.
The events began life as a monthly book club with a difference for visitors and locals, and now attract some top names in the worlds of both fiction and non-fiction. There have been other crime writers in attendance, including Martin Edwards, another author with very familiar Lake District locations, alongside romantic novelist Suzanne Snow, and astronomer Stuart Atkinson, whose visit began with a star gazing session on the shore of Windermere.
Adventurers and artists Heather Dawe and Liz Wakelin have been guests, along with the popular and enthusiastic paddle-boarding writer Jo Moseley, and wild swimmer novelist Ellie Wood. And while the regular events take place on a Wednesday evening, there was a special weekend session when the visitor was broadcaster and writer Louise Minchin.
Louise presented the UK’s most watched morning programme, BBC Breakfast, for 20 years. Before that she was a news anchor on the BBC News Channel and the BBC’s One O’clock News. She has also presented The One Show, Five Live Drive, Real Rescues and Missing Live, and has taken part in several reality TV shows. She's also a top tri-athlete and writer, and her first novel, Isolation Island, has already been shortlisted for awards.
She was at the Burn How Hotel to help raise funds for the 5k Your Way cancer charity of which she is patron.
Gordon Emery, who is an expert on the Lake District and author of Curious Cumbria is the latest guest this week (June 25).
"The events have been a great success," said organiser Vicky Robinson, whose husband Michael is the hotel owner. Vicky is a patron of the arts in Cumbria and chair of the Lakeland Book of the Year awards.
"We have a fantastic list of authors coming to us up until the end of this year, and it is wonderful to have the opportunity to talk to them about their work, and what inspires them. The events are loved by regular locals and holiday visitors alike."
She added: "We think Rachel Lynch is our biggest name so far. She's a delightful person; I want to find out why she wants to write about such grisly murders!"
The Burn How Meet the Author events are free to attend and no booking is needed. Check the news page on the hotel's website for the latest guests and dates. https://www.burnhow.co.uk/lakes-book-lovers/ Rachel Lynch will be there on Sept 24.
