The walkers were tackling the 73-mile Cumbria way over five days, hiking different sections, with their leader Craig Shaw walking the entire route from Ulverston to Carlisle.
The walk was organised by the Lake District Hotels Association, who are raising money for Hospitality Action, the charity which provides support to members of the hospitality industry who have fallen on hard times, from physical illness or mental health issues, to financial difficulty, family problems or addiction.
They were led by Craig, the client director with the Hospitality and Travel team at James Hallam Insurance Brokers who have joined with the LDHA as headline sponsors. The Lake District Hotels Association represents around 50 of the finest and largest independent and branded properties and tourist attractions in Cumbria.
Craig explained: “We work closely with the LDHA and we are heavily involved with the hotel industry and have been headline sponsors of the Independent Hotel Show for 10 years.”
The fundraising effort was also boosted by a a £5000 donation from the David Snowdon Trust which was founded by the Cumbrian businessman 25 years ago and regularly supports causes in higher education, the arts, and social needs including causes alleviating poverty and increasing social mobility in rural areas.
Other donations received from LWC; Caterite; Langdale Leisure; Langdale Chase; Classic Lodges; Another Place the Lake; Burn How Hotel; Windermere Lake Cruises; and Storrs Hall.
Walkers included team members from LWC Drinks, One Cost, Caterite and Grapevine, Another Place the Lake, the Lakeside Hotel, Ambleside Townhouse, Castle Green Hotel, Netherwood Hotel, Tracey Cragg from the LDHA, and some of Craig’s colleagues at James Hallam. Craig’s son Ben walked with them on three sections.
Craig added his thanks to The Langdale Estate, Lake District Hotels and Armthwaite Hall for their generous assistance with his accommodation along the route.
