It’s no surprise that the Lake District is one of the most popular places in the UK to get married.
What better way to officially begin married life than to say your vows with a backdrop of spectacular scenery, and then raise a toast and dance the night away in one of our many fabulous hotels.
Are you planning a wedding in 2017? Here are our top five reasons why we think you should say ‘I Do’ in the beautiful Lake District.
1. You can take your pick from a long list of wonderful wedding venues
Whether you’re planning your wedding ceremony in a church or at a hotel, you’ll be spoilt for choice when deciding on a venue in the Lake District. If you’re looking for somewhere special in Grasmere, the stylish Daffodil Hotel is a popular choice (they also have a wedding fayre coming up on 11 & 12 March), as is The Wordsworth which offers a variety of packages. There are plenty to choose from in Windermere, which is another sought-after location for weddings. The Gilpin offers the opportunity to get married inside or outside, in a lovely and tranquil environment. If you’re looking for a hilltop setting, The Linthwaite is perfectly positioned for amazing views and showstopping pictures. That’s just a taster of the type of venues in the Lakes, but you can take a look at a full list of superb LDHA hotels here.
2. Picture the scene...
If you’re imagining your wedding pictures in front of a backdrop of stunning waters and lakes like Windermere and Derwentwater, or in the midst of luscious green countryside, or in front of rolling hills and mountains - then the Lake District is almost certainly the perfect location for beautiful wedding photographs you’ll treasure forever.
3. A wedding breakfast to remember
Our local produce is second to none, and we have a number of specialities throughout the area, meaning your wedding breakfast can make the most of everything the Lake District has to offer. Your guests could enjoy a beautiful main course of salt marsh lamb, before a delectable dessert of Cartmel sticky toffee pudding, while sipping on a delightful tipple of damson gin.
4. Unique wedding favours
You could easily incorporate the flavour of the Lake District into your wedding. Treat your guests to the world-renowned Grasmere Gingerbread, or mini jars of rum butter. You could even give out some Kendal Mint Cake to be enjoyed as a perfect palate cleanser between courses! Alternatively, you could tap into the natural beauty of your surroundings and give your guests some flower seeds to be planted, or buy some potted herbs or hand-tied lavender and double them up as table place names.
So there you have it… four fantastic reasons to tie the knot in the lovely Lake District!
