What's on this August Bank Holiday

For many, the August Bank Holiday weekend is the last opportunity to experience the Lake District in this year’s scorching Summer. And, with a mix of unique attractions and fantastic offers on hotels, how could you resist? Here’s our highlights on what’s happening over the long weekend.

Hawkshead Badger Hide - 7:00pm - 11:00pm

For those looking to spend their bank holiday getting closer to nature, this wild night out with the RSPB in Haweswater is perfect. A unique experience where you can witness the Haweswater Badgers forage and socialise. In the new Badger Hide, you can observe these secretive creatures at close range. You’ll be accompanied by an RSPB Badger Guide, so you can learn all about badgers and ask any questions you may have.

Waterhead Boutique Hotel & Dining is located a short drive away and is offering a “free” Lake View and Dinner this August. Book a Classic Lake View Room for the price of a House Room in their 4* accommodation. This package includes free parking and WIFI and is the perfect excuse to get away this bank holiday.

Dear Uncle, Theatre by the Lake - 7:30pm

Experience the master of social comedy, Alan Ayckbourn’s adaptation of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. The play follows Sonya and Uncle Marcus, residents of Ennerdale in the Lake District, 1935. They live a quiet life with occasional visits from the dashing Dr Ash. However, this Summer is different as Sonya’s elderly father, Cedric, has arrived with his glamorous new wife, Helena. They wish to stay a few weeks and it’s not long before chaos has broken out.

Lancashire Life’s Ken Ford Powell remarked: 'The cast work magic with Chekhov's plot and convince us that this play was always intended for Cumbria... refreshing and relaxing'. Tickets are only £10 and offer the ideal reason to visit the beautiful Theatre by the Lake in Keswick.

Only 20 minutes away by car is the Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa. Book 3 nights away with their short break deal and enjoy overnight accommodation, a full English breakfast, table d’hôte dinner in their Lake View Restaurant, and use of the Spa facilities and daily exercise classes. Or, create your own luxurious experience with their available upgrades that include dinner in the Brasserie, afternoon tea, picnics, spa treatments and activities.

Where is Peter Rabbit? The Beatrix Potter Musical Adventure, Old Laundry Theatre - 11am, 1:30pm, 3:30pm

Trying to entertain the kids? Take them to see their favourite stories come to life with The Beatrix Potter Musical Adventure. With live actors, beautifully handcrafted puppets and enchanting original songs, witness the mischievous Peter Rabbit tease the ferocious Mr. McGregor.

Cragwood Country House Hotel is hosting a Potter Lakes Explorer experience, a packaged stay on Lake Windermere that will let you experience the world that inspired literary legend Beatrix Potter. The package includes a box of homemade chocolates, four-course dinner, one night’s accommodation, full english breakfast, and a half day Beatrix Potter Tour with Mountain Goat.
