Must Visit Lake District Christmas Markets

Halloween season has come to a close which means now’s the time to erect your christmas tree, layer those garlands, and dazzle with fairy lights. It also means that around the Lake District market stalls will be filling the streets, selling sweet treats, homemade crafts, and gifts galore. If you’re like us and can’t decide which markets to attend, here are some recommendations.

Tweedies Bar and Lodge rests in Grasmere, a small but legendary village known for its amazing, crumbly gingerbread. The most festive treat around, it’s status as a delicacy nearly overshadows Grasmere’s legacy as home to the Wordsworths, nearly.

Join Tweedies on the 23rd November - 24th November from 10am for festive foods, gifts, live music and a visit from Father Christmas. He’ll be accompanied by his handy elves and reindeer inside his special Grotto. Nosey around the stalls with a pint of one of their many beers, as home to the annual Grasmere Guzzler they certainly have a wide selection.

Windermere Christmas Celebration is set to be perhaps the largest Christmas market on this list. With over 50 stalls over two days, an ice rink, snow cannons, and Santa’s Grotto this is certainly a festive event to behold. For anyone visiting from out of town, you don’t need to stay in the centre of Windermere as a shuttle bus will run from Windermere Lake Cruises Pier 1 in Bowness.

Make your one day visit into a two day seasonal break at the Waterhead Hotel. Located near Ambleside Pier and within driving distance of Grasmere, this hotel is at the heart of the Lake District. Between December and March, you can recieve a two night break bnb, with dinner on the first night, for only £270 per person. Book your room now by calling 0330 4042675 and grab some local handmade gifts for the whole family.
